Lapsprint allows drivers to try their own vehicle on the Hidden Valley racing circuit. Like Motorkhana, cars must pass a safety inspection (scrutineering) and drivers must wear long pants and sleeves, covered shoes and helmet. Generally if a vehicle is road legal, it should be okay to use in Lapsprint. Road registration is not required, so drivers may also use non-registered vehicles or test race cars during Lapsprint sessions when permitted by event organisers.
Cars are released onto the track at intervals and no racing against other vehicles is permitted. The intent is for drivers to have space around themselves on track to learn the track and their car, using lap timing to benchmark techniques.
For anyone that wants to participate in Lapsprint regularly, the Super Sprint series allows a competition format based on lap times achieved.
Lapsprint is a great introduction to the track before progressing to Circuit Racing.
