MOTORKHANAS

NORMAN DESIGN MOTORKHANA SERIES 2010

Motorkhana events are held monthly at the Hidden Valley Race Track , starting with sign on at 9:00am

Motorkhanas are aimed at allowing people of all skill levels to have fun with their car in a controlled, low speed environment and to encourage development of better car control techniques. Cars of all types compete on a series of tight, twisty course marked out with “witches hats”.

Only first gear is used and speeds would rarely reach more than 20kmh. When the starter signals “go” the driver exits the starting “box” and negotiates a series of turns before returning to the finish “box”. The driver completing the course in the fastest time is the winner but time penalties are added for each witches hat knocked down so accurate driving and car control is equally as important as a low elapsed time.

The events are open to all cars and drivers – although road registered cars are the norm a few “paddock bashers” turn up from time to time and so long as they have safe brakes, steering and seat belts they can compete.

Because the events are conducted at low speed helmets and race suits are NOT required – thongs are best left home though – both the footwear and the other type! Normal seat belts are used.

The most likely car is often not the fastest – although a beautiful Lotus Exige regularly competes and is hard to beat the nimble little Suzuki Swift is sometimes quicker. And age is no barrier - we have a number of competitors in the 50 - 60+ range, where age, experience and cunning sometimes deals a hiding to youthful exuberance!

Some drivers are more focused on drifting fun than outright times – these drivers use anything from a Nisan Skyline to a Volvo sedan, although the rugged Holden Gemini with its quick steering and bullet proof motor is popular.

Cost is $30 per driver. A Sausage Sizzle and drinks are available for $2.00 each.

ALL drivers are expected to take out an annual CAMS Drivers Licence and Annual NAMSC Membership

(NOTE: 1 x Level 1 day-licence and 1 x day-membership will be allowed for first time drivers only)
